facethestrangeMy longer-than-usual Yellowjackets post is here! (Shorter posts are sure more comfortable to write, but I couldn't stop. xD)
Spoilers for episode 2x04 - Old Wounds.
➽ TEEN LOTTIE'S VISION! I don't even have a deep analysis of it or anything, just I LOVE IT SO MUCH because dream imagery is like my favorite thing ever, and super personal character-study-dream-imagery of my favorite character is everything. ♡♡♡
➽ LOTTIE! I am so glad she's not a supervillain after all, or even a villain, she's just a confused, traumatized person with good intentions. She so clearly didn't want to be the messiah as a teen, and she still doesn't want it in the present, and her entire demeanor was so vulnerable and heartbreaking.
➽ I don't think Lottie's psychiatrist was real? Like, people are saying that shitty psychiatrists like that are 100% realistic and you're lucky if you haven't met one, which I also believe, but the replacement and what she said were awfully convenient? If Lottie's brain wants to follow the visions, it can also make up a 'permission' to do that. (And I haven't rewatched, but apparently the psychiatrist's office had honeycomb-shaped decor.)
➽ BTW I originally thought the psychiatrist was paid by someone to do that, and then I was like 'but it was Lottie who was supposed to be the big bad', and then I realized how much I love that there is no one ~bigger~, no sinister organization, it's all just regular traumatized people getting themselves and each other into shitty situations.
➽ The intro song (in the actual intro, not in the vision; and btw the vision version was amazing omg! ♡) confused me so much because it's the first episode I watched on my new computer and I was like 'it's DIFFERENT but maybe it's not, maybe I just hear it differently', and then it turned out it was a cover by Alanis Morissette. :D Who btw has been my favorite singer for the majority of my entire life. ♡
➽ Akilah's little mouse frienddddd. (Someone on reddit wanted to name it Mr. Jingles, asdfghgfdshjk. ♡) That's it, that's my comment.
➽ WTF is the dripping Mari hears, though? Is it related to the melted snow areas? Also, thehatch bunker/mine scene from the trailer was imaginary, but I'm pretty sure it actually exists and that's where Javi was.
➽ Lisa does have a (shitty) family, but that doesn't mean that it's her birth family, so she could still be Shauna's baby. I ADORE Natalie protecting Lisa from her mother and getting her fish, no matter how weirdly-bordering-on-terribly she went about doing both of these things. xD
➽ The 'good game' bathing scene was really really SWEET.
➽ Not my observation, but re: Van's store While You Were Streaming (which is a cute af name in itself :D) and the obvious parallel to her telling the While You Were Sleeping story, someone on reddit noticed that Van literally keeps telling Tai what happened while she was sleeping.
➽ I have feelings about Callie and the way she seems to remind Shauna of Jackie, because damn, it turns out that Callie is not even popular, and it doesn't sound like she ever was? She has exactly one friend she can stay with (and she doesn't even do that anymore), she doesn't even have her boyfriend anymore either, she hangs out with the creepy cop... It doesn't seem to be the "I have all the acquaintances and admirers but no friends because I'm popular and intimidating" thing, it straight-up seems to be "I actually have nobody". So does she remind Shauna of Jackie JUST because she's a teenage girl who doesn't particularly like Shauna? It's so beautifully fucked up.

(Recommended), and I was waiting for them to tell me what was the opening for that episode but they didn’t, and now finally reading your (great) comments I see it was ALANIS’S??!? (Yep, she had been a pretty important singer for a very very long time, since my preteens, as well…)
