YELLOWJACKETS DAYYYYY. ♡♡♡
Spoilers for episode 2x01 - Friends, Romans, Countrymen. Content notes: cannibalism, animal cruelty/death.
➽ BREAK JACKIE. CHOMP JACKIE. Okay then. (I'm also just going to assume that the ground was already too frozen to bury her right after the first snow, because otherwise I have QUESTIONS.)
➽ I absolutely love the entire 1998 post-rescue arrival scene.
➽ I was glad that Lottie made a life for herself that she seems to enjoy, until she got to the 'my trauma is not actually REAL btw' part where I just went 'um, I think you still have a long way to go'. Still mostly glad though, and kinda hoping she will not turn out to be too evil.
➽ Crystal is such a redshirt, but what an adorable one! :D
➽ I said on reddit during S1 that Shauna and Jeff are just like Alison and Donnie from Orphan Black, and, well, they 100% continue on this path. xD
➽ Reddit observation by user not_productive1: "If I had a nickel for every time this year a show with Melanie Lynskey has signaled cannibalism with a shot of a human ear, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it’s happened twice." xD I did think of The Last of Us twice (Jackie not being buried, the ear lying on the ground), but didn't go as far as Melanie Lynskey.
➽ The speech from the title goes "friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your EARS", lmao, which I found out from reddit.
➽ Protect Steve from bad!Tai, kthx. (This is like The Magicians where Alice's first 'detector' cat exploded but the second one ran away. I feel like they can't do it twice, so I'm pretty sure he's safe?)
Feel free to come talk to me about the episode at any time, whenever you watch it - the concept of 'it's now too late' doesn't exist. :D

26/3/23 18:57 (UTC)I did wonder in the moment if Taissa would end up taking Steve back once she found Biscuit's head. Is the exploding cat the scene you minimise on rewatches?

28/3/23 05:08 (UTC)Yeah, Taissa just keeping Steve and hoping to do better this time doesn't necessarily fill me with hope? But 'the show probably can't kill two dogs the same way' kinda does, at least a bit. And no, sadly it's not even this scene, The Magicians is straight-up horrible for cats. The exploding cat is in a carrier and all you can see from the outside is blood (kittens are supposed to be able to detect the presence of a dangerous magical creature, and it turns out that this is the way they do it). The scene I can't watch is an intentional on-screen murder of a cat by a villain. :(
