Challenge #8 - In your own space, create a quiz or a poll (or tell us your thoughts about answering quizzes/polls).
This is a list of 15 shows that I started, possibly months ago, most likely years ago (or even a decade ago sometimes), watched one season or so, LIKED it, and then never continued watching them for no particular reason. xD And now I want to ask y'all - which of these shows do you know and like?
The results of the poll will probably not actually affect my watching order because I have my favs (which is why the list is alphabetical), and there are also some shows that would fit these criteria that I AM currently watching so I didn't put them on this list. :P But at least I'll find out which ones have the biggest fandoms for when I do watch them and want to talk about them. :D

23/1/23 13:05 (UTC)What are your favorite shows? :)

16/1/23 20:27 (UTC)I vaguely know a good chunk of them but I only watched more than one season of The Vampire Diaries and Call the Midwife. I do that a lot -- watch one season and then almost forget about the show.
I was thinking just recently (because of my wandering on Dreamwidth) how much I have lost the habit of watching live-action tv shows minus the latest drops on Netflix (just because they're there, basically) and limited series when they come recommended to me. On the other hand, now I'm watching many anime, something that I didn't do for years before Covid... so, I guess it's all about getting bored of something and then coming back after a while? Who knows.
I used to have lists of "things to finish", then I thought that if I'm curious I'll go back, and maybe they'll even become my no. 1 fandom (like it is at the moment with AoT), but nothing prescriptive. When it happens, it happens!

23/1/23 13:14 (UTC):D SAME, which is why this poll exists. xD I actually had a list much longer than 15 shows, so I decided to narrow it down to shows where I actually LIKED the first season instead of just having watched it. :P
I think the genre/medium doesn't really matter in the end, it's just about the fun you're getting out of it, so yay for finding your current niche! :) I watch a little bit of everything, I think my criteria are only 'does it have characters I like' and 'the longer the better'.
"I used to have lists of "things to finish", then I thought that if I'm curious I'll go back, and maybe they'll even become my no. 1 fandom (like it is at the moment with AoT), but nothing prescriptive. When it happens, it happens!"
I love this attitude! ♡ I don't keep a list of things to finish, I only keep a list of shows I started (sometimes it's one episode only xD) and I don't care if a show is on this list for 15 years (as a lot of them are), so in the end it's the same. I never need to go back to any of them, I just like to know which shows I've actually seen some of and which I only know from fandom osmosis. xD

16/1/23 22:44 (UTC)It's the same with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, as well, though I think a lot more people will recognize and know that one a little bit more, since the Terminator fans who have watched it agree that it is severely underrated and perhaps one of the best depiction of a post-T2 Terminator story that deserved more seasons, to which I say that I'm still immensely bitter it was cancelled after only two seasons.
(Both those shows had their soundtracks done by Bear McCreary so, that's an added plus. ;D)
Obviously, I love The Expanse. It filled that particular scifi hole in my heart that I was missing since BSG. Amazing and rich world-building, deeply flawed and complex characters, a compelling story about humanity. Just brilliant, incredible, show-stopping, etc. I have the books that I have yet to crack open yet, but I cannot wait to do so.
Aside from those though, I have watched a few others from the list but never did quite finish them. Longmire I watched simply because of Katee Sackhoff, and I liked what I saw when I began watching it, and I do kind of want to eventually get back into it. I watched sporadic episodes of the first few seasons of Call The Midwife because my sister had it on once and I was curious as to what was happening. It's one of those kinds of drama shows that you can kind of put on in the background.
I only watched the first two seasons of The Vampire Diaries, which I liked a lot, but I stopped after that because I just wasn't that interested after hearing what happens later on. I do think the first two seasons were solid, for what it's worth.

23/1/23 13:31 (UTC)I don't know Terminator at all, I've never watched any of the movies, so I was sort of not the target audience for TSCC but I really enjoyed it (or what I've watched of it) anyway. :D
Your excitement about The Expanse makes me hopeful because as much as I did like the first season just fine, it's not my personal favorite on this list. But it does seem to get more interesting later, or maybe just more relevant to my own interests - S1 was a "too much plot, too little characters" situation for me, but it obviously depends on what you're looking for in the characters. And now I'm quite excited to see if the rest of the show would be more like BSG (which is, obviously, one of my favorite shows ever)! :)
"Longmire I watched simply because of Katee Sackhoff, and I liked what I saw when I began watching it, and I do kind of want to eventually get back into it."
All of this, same. xD
I watched Call the Midwife as it aired and stopped between seasons because the next season wasn't out yet (I think S3 but possibly S2). I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it's still going. :D I know (almost?) the entire cast is now different, though.
The Vampire Diaries is the show from this list that I've watched the most of (3 seasons I think) and I didn't stop for any particular reason either, I'd be interested in watching it again. I haven't heard anything that would put me off - whether that's because this specific thing wouldn't put me off, or because I haven't heard enough things about the later seasons, I don't know. xD

16/1/23 22:54 (UTC)I quite enjoyed Longmire & Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. And I haven't watched it, but Call the Midwife is on my list, everyone I know who's watched it has liked it.
We've already talked about
show of my heartThe Expanse :D(no subject)
23/1/23 14:01 (UTC)The conversations with you about The Expanse are the main reason it is now the next show I'm planning to finish. :D

17/1/23 08:29 (UTC)I hesitated over Nashville, but I had to stop watching (I think halfway through the third season? Something like that) because it leans very much into Bad Stuff Happening to people and people being unhappy, which is not something I can stomach without some positives balancing it out. But if you don't have those same issues, that's also one I'd recommend.

23/1/23 14:08 (UTC)I can totally understand not being able to watch that, but I'm pretty much the opposite - a big fan of angst and grimdark, so this sounds right up my alley. :D

18/1/23 18:22 (UTC)Also have seen Being Human (UK) and it's great too. Definitely DO NOT watch the US version, so so bad.
TVD is always a yes in my book. Katherine Pierce is my HBIC so I can't recommend it enough.
(no subject)
23/1/23 14:15 (UTC)I associate Katherine Pierce with you, hee. :D TVD is the show on this list that I've watched the most of, I think it was 3 seasons, but that's still a relatively small part of the show as a whole. I definitely liked it too, though it straight-up insisted on killing off EVERY character that became my actual fave (Vicki, Lexi, Bree). xD xD
(no subject)
24/1/23 03:41 (UTC)I associate Katherine Pierce with you <--- LOVE THIS!!! And thank you <3
I know, Killing of Lexi hurt my soul. I loved her so much! Vicki would've been a fun vamp to have around, so killing her off asap kinda sucked.
Yes Cameron! Summer Glau is a beautiful woman and I love everything she's been in and her characters. Have you seen Dollhouse?
(no subject)
30/1/23 14:24 (UTC)Lexi was one of the most fun characters from any show ever tbh! ♡
Dollhouse! ♡♡♡ I watched it back when it originally aired, then I tried to re-watch it in 2015-ish and got nightmares every night until I just stopped the re-watch halfway, lol (bad memories from the time when I watched it first), but I always want to try to re-watch again and see if maybe my brain will let me this time because I frakking loved that show. :D

19/1/23 20:47 (UTC)Heart of Dixie is something I've meant to watch (or actually I might have seen some episodes) but it was always airing in the mornings, which is not the ideal time for me. Well, I do have the possiblity to record every program for later but I seldom watch what I save.

23/1/23 14:19 (UTC)I only watch shows online, I haven't even had a tv since 2011, but I can definitely see that. *nods*
