Yeah, Taissa just keeping Steve and hoping to do better this time doesn't necessarily fill me with hope? But 'the show probably can't kill two dogs the same way' kinda does, at least a bit. And no, sadly it's not even this scene, The Magicians is straight-up horrible for cats. The exploding cat is in a carrier and all you can see from the outside is blood (kittens are supposed to be able to detect the presence of a dangerous magical creature, and it turns out that this is the way they do it). The scene I can't watch is an intentional on-screen murder of a cat by a villain. :(
